Perhaps you have wondered about the "Church of Christ." Who are these people? What do they believe? First of all, these people are convinced that the church of the New Testament is the only church worth having. According to Jesus Christ, His church was to be built by Him. "Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell (hades) shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18). The church of the New Testament was the church of which Paul spoke when he addressed the Ephesian elders in Acts 20:28: "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost (Spirit) hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."

The church we read about in the New Testament is the "Christ-built," "Blood-bought" church. Appropriately, it wore His name - "the churches of Christ salute you" (Romans 16:16). It is commendable indeed to desire to belong to the church to which the Lord added the SAVED! (Acts 2:47) Those who are motivated to be Christians only and to be members of the church of the New Testament are not involved with reform or attempting to establish any other denomination. We strive instead to be His church and His church only.

Secondly, the people of the church of Christ submit to no other teaching than that of the Bible. There is no recognized authority of God other than the inspired Scriptures. "The Holy Scriptures are able to make thee wise unto slavation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect (complete), thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (II Timothy 3:15b-17). What more could we possibly need for direction, doctrine, practice, and salavation! Adding or subtracting from this inspired word is strictly forbidden (Galatians 1: 6-12; Revelation 22: 18-19).

We believe the Bible. For this reason we "study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15). All religious questions find their answer in one source - "It is written." (Matthew 4: 4,7,10) The requirements for salvation, directions for worship, pattern for organization, and platform for works and obligations - all furnished completely in God's Word! In keeping with Bible authority, these people recognize no ruling body. Christ alone is the Head of His church. "Christ is the head of the church" (Ephesians 5:23) The church of Christ has no earthly headquarters. Our Head is in Heaven. Each congregation submits themselves to Him as He directs through the Word. There is a grave danger in heeding the authority of men: "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and NOT AFTER CHRIST" (Colossians 2: 8).

Finally, the people of the church of Christ desire to tell others the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ. Salvation can only be found in Him (Acts 4:12). As all of us are unworthy of eternal life (Romans 3:23), it is a joyous task to bear the glad tidings that all of us can find eternal life in Christ. These people gladly say, "Come." The Scriptures say, "Come." "Whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17). Please visit with us. You will be our honored guests.
